Puffy eyes can be brought on by temporary negative states of health such as lack of sleep, illness, poor nutrition, high stress, and general fatigue. Eyes also tend to puff after a recent shedding of tears. A family history of puffy eyes may also cause a person to genetically inherit the physical attribute.

It could be caused by allergies. Try taking an over-the-counter anti-histamine like Benadryl and see if your condition improves. You may also be rubbing your eyes. If so, don't.

Perhaps you have allergies causing your puffy eyes. Try to not rub your eyes, as that might be what is affecting them also. Salt intake needs to be monitored because salt makes the body bloated and could cause eye puffing. Perhaps you should visit an optomitrist to make sure that nothing is seriously wrong.

Puffy eyes result when the membranes surrounding the eyes are irritated. This can be from allergens, like dust or pollen. Rubbing your eyes can also irritate the surrounding tissue to cause it to be inflammed. Another, reason why eyes can be puffy is lack of sleep or from crying for an extended period of time.
