The polar bear is generally agreed upon to be the largest species of bear on Earth. The average weight of a mature male is between 900 and 1,500 pounds. With the heaviest on record being 2,120 pounds! The average length of a mature male is between eight and eight and a half feet.

There is slight controversy over this. While on average, Polar Bears are heavier and taller, the largest and heaviest bears ever recorded were Kodiak Bears (a type of brown bear).

The biggest species of bear is generally considered to be the polar bear. The male polar bear averages between 900 and 1500 pounds, while the next largest bear, the brown bear, averages between 500 and 900 pounds. Some believe that the brown bear is the largest, but they are using different criteria for determining.
