The best questions are ones that are related to the work position, for example their experience with whatever the position is. How long they have had experience? I would stay away from any personal questions, those could cause you some serious trouble in the long run. Just stick to the position that you are trying to fill.

Where do you see yourself in five years? Describe a good day at work. How is it different from a bad day? Give an example of how you pulled a group of people together to deliver a common goal. How many gallons of paint does it take to paint a 747?

Questions that can be very informative when conducting a job interview: Why do you think you would be a good fit for this company? Tell me about a time you failed. (See if they can put a positive spin on this. ) Tell me about a valuable learning experience you have had. What unique qualities will you bring to this company?

A lot of people really like questions that start with "tell me about a time". For instance, tell me about a time that you had to reprimand an employee. These seem to give a sense of their employment style as well as experience. When you say "tell me about yourself" no one even knows what to say.
