Melatonin is involved in sleep and wake cycles. As one ages, its production lessens. Since the quantity of the horone in a person's sister normally rises at late afternoon and drops off in the morning hours, shorter days of winter can create an imbalance of the hormone, leading to Seasonal Affective Disorder. The hormone is also considered a powerful antioxident.
