Baptists focus on what Paul has to say about speaking in tongues in 1 Corinthians 14:5 and other passages. Yes, it exists. But there are preferable things to do in worship such as prophesying. Unlike some churches, Baptists do not believe you have to speak in tongues to be saved.

Generally, they believe that speaking in tongues ended after the apostles died. While there is acknowledgment among many Baptist sects that God blesses believers with gifts, most Baptists reject the idea of speaking in tongues in the modern day. For the most part, Southern Baptists reject speaking in tongues, but many independent Baptists at least allow for the concept.

It depends on the independent Baptist pastor. Speaking in tongues is considered a charismatic movement, and thus many Baptist Churches believe and practice it; some, however, condemn it.

The idea of tongue speaking is irrelevant to Protestant Christianity. To believe someone who says they do it, you have to take their "word"for it - but their "word" is not in harmony with New Testament canon, the Word of God. God's Word supercedes their "word." It's not of God.

Baptists basically do not believe in holy spirits and speaking in tongues. Their oppostion to speaking in tongues seems rooted in their opposition against cathalic christianity which they always hate to accommodate

They are divided on it. The majority of Baptists believe speaking in tongues was just in Biblical times. Some believe it carries over to today as well.

Speaking in tongues is the communication between god and man. This is one of the gifts of the holy spirit. By praying regularly and sincerly, you can receive the gifts from god.
