Steroids are the general term for any hormone (chemical messenger of the body) produced artificially. The most infamous ones (and the most popular) are anabolic steroids. They're artificially produced male sex hormones that significantly increase muscle size and growth rate. However, they also cause many health problems, including cardiac risks (heart risks).

Steroids can be used for two different purposes. The legal steroids are used as medical treatment to decrease extreme inflammation in the body. Illegal steroids are used to increase muscles.

Steroids are powerful anti-inflammatory drugs that cure almost as many ailments as they produce side-effects. Not to be mistaken for hormonal derivatives used to increase body bulk known as anabolic steroids. Steroids can be dangerous because, once taken, if stopped suddenly they can knock out the adrenal gland.
