Because teens usually wear cheaper jewelry due to budget, there is a simple trick to keep the jewelry from turning your skin green, and to keep your jewelry looking nice. Before wearing it, coat your cheap jewelry (NOT nice jewelry! ) with a thin layer of clear nail polish. The nail polish prevents it from tarnishing and keeps your skin clean.

Teens should be cautioned about wearing heavy earrings, especially the ones that dangle from ear wires. The weight of the earrings combined with the almost needle-like nature of the wires can cause the earlobes to tear. Something with a post type base of support is safer. Hoops should be small, since they easily get caught in hair, clothing, etc.

First, don't buy anything you can't afford to lose because you probably will lose something. Second, anything that goes into your body, i. e. earrings or any other piercings, keep very clean. Infection is something you do not want.
