A travel agent can find cheap tickets especially if you can give him some time to search. Also, try the websites in the middle of the night.

Go to Expedia and Travelocity for the lowest fares. Then go the airline's website that showed the lowest fare. Then change dates to see if the price goes down.

Book your trip at least 21 days in advance. Be flexible on travel days and consider taking a red-eye. Check all of the travel web sites before final booking.

Searching sites such as Travelocity, Expedia, and Hotwire. Negotiating the price on Priceline. Using these overall sites for a general idea and checking individual airline's websites.

Warning! Do not use priceline before checking the number of customer complaints against them. I wish I had done this before they booked me on a flight that didn't exist, then charged me a cancellation fee; and never admitted fault. Turned my 2009 vacation into a nightmare.  add a comment

Go to the internet, type in the airlines that you want to use and check from there. Usually the internet has the cheapest prices.
