You can study the animal behavior of the beta fish by placing one in an enclosed tank by itself and then holding a mirror up to the fish so it can see it's reflection. The animal will immediatly flair up and display an interesting territorial aggressive response to it's own reflection.

Get three bowls with completely different decor in each bowl. Three fish, one in each bowl. Keep them in the bowls for a few days, so they know it is theirs. On the fourth day, put fish b in fish a's bowl, and see what occurs. Remove fish b back to his bowl. On day five, reverse it. Continue on.

With a little creativity you can create your own science experiment with your betta fish. Some ideas might be what type of food makes the fish grow better. Another ideas is seeing what type of environment allows your fish to grow better.

Use a mirror to watch how it acts territorial and puffs up. You can have two bettas in two tanks, one with a plant and one without, compare how difference in how much fish food they eat and growth differences. (They usually eat the plant too.)

Science experiments on betta fish is in the theme of behavior. It was found out that a betta fish gets aggresive upon seing its reflection in a mirror. A sign that they are territorial. Their behavior changes also into aggressive mode when in another place that is new for them.

You can test animal territoriality. Betas normally have to be separated because they are very territorial fish, and placing two in the same tank normally ends badly.

First is to basically observe the beauty of the betta fish, especially the eyes, mouth, gills, scales, and fins. Second, by having 2 fishes and letting first one inside the container of second fish, we can experiment that the betta fishes fight for defending its own territory.

well , given the relative affordability of beta fish why not try a breeding program, whereby you could prove conclusively that genetics play a role in aggression, or submission in case of this most interesting little Fish. See , if any genetic defects are passed on to the fry.
