Take your RV to be inspected by a professional who has qualified as a propane gas or RV dealer for an annual checkup to keep the system running properly. If you pass inspection, sand down the minor rust, prime and touch up with paint not the labels. Pay attention and follow proper refueling procedures at all fueling filling stations.

Well an obvious tip is no smoking, or being near any open flame. Another tip would be to make sure you don't overfill the tanks.

First and foremost you want to avoid open flames. Smoking that kind of thing. You need to be careful that you don't inhale and fumes emitted by the canister. You'll also want to make sure you have a clean connection between the tank and fill-up station.

First off shut down the engine. Do not leave the RV idling while you refill the propane tanks. Next turn off all the propane using appliances. Outside the RV chock the wheels. Make sure tanks are only filled to 80% capacity. Leave the hatch to the tanks open after filling for a few minutes to air out.
