You should ask how developed your child's lungs are. It is also important to know the signs and symptoms of infection or struggle when it comes to breathing. If he is using medication and/or breathing machines (such as a nebulizer) it is important to know how these work and how often and how to use them.

Make sure you have all instructions in writing and get the name, address and emergency contact phone number. Have the therapist walk you through the steps you have to complete everyday while you are still in the hospital. And most importantly ask if your insurance covers home care.

I would ask the following questions. What type of equipment will my child be using? What does this equipment do/monitor? Will there be teaching with this equipment before we leave.

This is something you should set down and talk with your doctor about before you leave the hospital. If your child has a respiratory therapist now I would ask if the therapist going to make visits to your home when your baby comes home. But I'm more then confident the doctors will tell every to look for a correct care.
