Some large dogs breeds include the St. Bernard, the Afghan Hound, and the largest of all, the Great Dane. The Dogue de Bordeaux, also known as the French Mastiff. German Shepherds are large, and favored for their guarding instints.

Great Danes and Irish Wolfhounds are very tall breeds, while Mastiffs and Saint Bernards are very heavy breeds. Akitas and Newfoundlands are also large breeds.
