There are three basic kinds of combat aircraft: fighters, bombers, and helicopters. Fighters range from the Supermarine Spitfire of World War II, to the Russian Su-27 Flanker and American F-22 Raptor of today. Bombers include the Mosquito, the Avro Lancaster, the B-52 Stratofortress, the Tupolev Bear bomber, and the B-2 stealth bomber. Attach helicopters include the American AH-64 Apache.

The German ME 262 was the world's first jet aircraft that saw combat, with it's twin turbojet engines it set the standard for all future combat designs. It first saw action in 1944 against American B-17 bombers.

There are many kinds. An example would be helicopters used in the United States Army. Some examples are the Apache and the Black Hawk.
