What are some important things to know about roseola and a pregnant woman

I'm pregnant and was exposed to roseola.

Definatley know that it is contageous and that you should go to your doctor to be check. Usually you get a immunization that protects you.

Roseola pose a problem to the unborn baby. There is no effective way to prevent it and it is contagious during the febrile phase of the disease. Roseola is followed by red rash on the upper arms, legs, and face when the fever disappears.

Most adults are immune to the infection and will have antibodies against it. There have been very few instances of fetal problems due to maternal roseola.

Being exposed to roseola can be harmful, but you have to go and get tested first to really know if you have it. They can treat you for it, and the medicing will be harmful to the baby.

Not medical Adivce: Depending when you were exposed to the virus will determine the situation. If in the first trimester there is a possiblity of miscarriage and a higher risk. Possible other effects in later stages include Birth Defects. some women who have been exposed in these stages have had no effects. Consult your OB of exposure.
