What are some ideas for dealing with a person with bipolar personality disorder?

You have to be there and support them through their high times and their low times. Make sure you don't make any snap judgments about them. You have to remember they are not doing those crazy things to make you upset or angry. They have to live with it.

Don't get them upset. In whatever you do with them make sure it is calming. Sometimes they need to get things off their minds and they need a listner.

The best way to handle this is to approach them and advise that they need medical care. Bipolar can be deadly if not handled. Medication is a major part of stabilization. So, be there for them, help them through it. It gets better, they just need to seek professional help.

Intensive treatment with a team of experienced psychologists/psychiatrist of same sex in a inpatient setting, with intense group therapy, as well as intense individualized attentionm wuth family/friend support, medication if needed to address other issues, with Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy for 2+ months with 24-hour support available!

1. Realize that reality for them is what they think it is, not for everyone else. 2. Absolutely require that they take their medication, and assume it is dangerous if they do not. 3. If they become violent, do not make excuses - get them to a doctor for treatment.
