What are some good topics for demonstrations?

The first thing to remember to to pick a topic that you are familiar and comfortable with. Then see if you can complete the following: How to make...; How to fix...; How ... works. Make sure the task does not require a lot of extras. When I judged speeches my favorite was how to set a table.

Choose something that you are familiar with and that is simple so you can focus on making sure your speech is excellent. Like making a sundae. Something that visual as well would add a lot.
