Current popular books for 16-year-old girls include the Twilight series and Vampire Diaries. For more classic books, consider Lucy Maud Montgomery's Anne of Green Gables series or any of the Judy Bloom books.

I read Terry Brooks, The Wishsong of Shannara. Brin is transitioning from being a girl to a women and must learn alot along the path to do her part in saving her world. I was able to associate with her well as a teen.

The Princess Diaries series by Meg Cabot is a good place to start. Other coming of age novels for teen girls would be Lock and Key by Sarah Dessen, What My Mother Doesn't Know by Sonya Sones, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares, and Tangled by Carolyn Mackler.

"Are you there God, it's me, Margaret" by Judy Blume is a great coming of age novel for a young woman, as are "Foxfire" by Joyce Carole Oates, "Catcher in the Rye" by JD Salinger, "A Seperate Peace" by John Knowles, "Dangerous Angels" by Francesca Lia Block, and "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" by Betty Smith, to name a few.
