What are some good BMX tricks for a beginner to work on?

There are several tricks your son can work on. The most commonly cited beginner trick is bunny hoping. That seems to be the first move in getting a handle on other tricks like X-Ups and the Can-Can. You can look up these up on YouTube to get a better idea.

Simple flat-land tricks are probably the safest, manuals, bar-hops, a bar spin is pretty simple on a bike with a detangler, other tricks like endos and tailwhips can be introduced as he gets stronger and better and able to take a fall without breaking something. Old school is still cool!

Start him off easy don't let him get into freestyle right away by concentrating on BMX track racing before getting into the heavy trick stuff a beginner needs to know basics like balancing on the frame with his feet and riding no hands--balance is always key skill before attempting tricks.
