Any fraction of integers, or, any number with a finite number of decimal places or an infinitely repeating number pattern after the decimal is rational. 1, 1/4 (0.25), and 1/3 (0.333...) are rational, while pi (3.14159...), e (2.71828...), and the square root of 2 (1.41421...) are not.

They are numbers that can be written as a fraction (where a/b as long as b doesn't equal 0). 1/2, -3, 5.4, 42 and 0 are examples.
