I like using many different textures for cards. Use stickers, magazine cutouts, fabric, ribbon, colored pencils and gel pens for lettering. Keep to 1 or 2 colors or it will look messy instead of artistic.

Cards with lots of textural items and dimension are always well received. Use sticky foam squares (available at big craft stores) to raise portions of the card. Pop-up cards are fun, too. Keep the recipient in mind for colours - kids like bright colours that pop, adults may not.

A craft store around you should carry blank premade cards with envelope, you can use these and several scrapbooking supplies such as ribbon and stickers and matting paper to start.
