Peeling nails can occur for numerous reasons. The main reason that I have personally encountered is a vitamin deficiency or when I take antibiotics. I was able to rememdy my peeling nails from taking a simple multi-vitamin purchased from my local drugstore 1-2 times per day. I noticed improvements within a week.

One of the most likely reasons is chemical trauma to the nails. Frequent exposure to cleaning agents and immersion of the hands in water can weaken the keratin, causing the top layers of the nails to flake off. Nutrient deficiencies and physical abrasion are also possibilities.

Lack of calcium which helps in strong bones and nails could be a culprit. There could also be some form of infection which could also cause the nails to split. A good medical examination can bring to light the real specific cause of the same.
