Generally earthtone colors will provide the best service as they tend to be less likely to fade. Avoiding extremely dark colors will also tend to give you longer service.

Exterior paint will have that noted right on the can, so you'll know which paint colors can be used on the outside of your house. Most of it is oil based because oil based paint is tougher than latex paint.

You should try and stay in the color scheme of the neighborhood. You can't go wrong with light colors like white, beige, taupe, don't forget trim white always works.

I think the safest paint would be a light color that is like a color of a flesh, or also a light color of yellow.

A neutral color is always a safe choice for exterior paint, white, most shades of tan or beige, and light gray. Stay away from any colors that are bold or that age quickly such as green, the shade of green that is popular today will be outdated in 10 years.
