You could have moved your neck in an awkward position which would cause your muscle to tighten up. You could have a vetebrae which slightly moved and would cause sever pain. You could be having severe muscle spasms due to lifting something and straining your neck muscles. You could be starting to get a migraine headache due to stress.

Neck pain can be caused by many things. Typically sudden neck pain is caused by a sport-related injury or repetitive actions using poor posture.

It could possibly be your mattress or pillow, or are you sleeping with a fan or air conditioning blowing on your neck. Make these adjustments and if this continues see a doctor. You can have a back problem and your spine is out of line or something more serious. But see your doctor.

May be that pain is the after effect of the slaps presented by any lady. Guys who are working in the IT field usually suffer with this type of a neck pain, since they use to work in front of the computer system continuously for hours. Mild accidents may also result in swellings behind the neck followed by severe pain
