You thyroid is a gland in your neck just above your adam's apple and in front of the treachea. It is the body's theromstat and controls body temperature and metabolism. You probably have a high or low metabolism or a high or low body temperature.

This is something that should be asked to your doctor that told you this. The range he is speaking of im pretty sure is in regards to their size lengthwise.

A normal thyroid is when the right lobe measures 5x1. 8 x 2. 0 cm. and the left lobe measures 4. 0 x1. 5x 1. 4cm. The usual way of measuring the thyroid is by having an ultra-sound. If one or both lobes are large you need a Fine Needle Aspiration. These are not always accurate, so some surgeons prefer to remove the thyroid.

You need to contact the doctor that gave you the diagnoses and make them explain to you exactly what that means or you can do an internet search and it will pull you the stats on it.
