Computers store memory several ways. What you are probably most familiar with is on a hard disk drive, which is a spinning magnetic disk which stores everything from your computer's programs to pictures. Memory is also store on Random Access Memory, or RAM. RAM is used to temporarily hold variables for computing processes. ROM is like RAM, but read only.

There are 2 different types of "memory". The first is hard drive memory, or space that you can store things. The other is RAM, this is your working memory.

The computer has both RAM and ROM. RAM is the memory that runs windows and programs that demand resources. ROM holds instructions for booting and is saved with a little watch battery inside your computer.
