What accounts for the consistency change in the last 2 centuries upon the 2 leading countries (U.S. & China)?

I think changing political and economic systems are the main reasons for the change. The amount of population growth is also a major factor.

With so many products being imported from China and less products being manufactured in America this has made China a stronger nation and the United States a weaker nation.
