Was there ever time when it was possible to tour Ft. Knox?

I am pretty sure for quite a few years that people were allowed to tour Ft. Knox. I also believe that tours are still available, but tourists are not allowed to go inside the gates of the actual area where the gold is kept. I can understand this would be a security issue.

No. There were never tours. The reason why is security. Within Fort Knox, which is on a marine base, and if you even get within 100 feet you're TOO CLOSE!!!!!!! Fort Knox is home to the Magna Carta and Crown jewels of several royal families, and our country's GOLD!!!!!(u.S. Gold).
