The drip edge goes behind the gutter. There's two things happening making this necessary, gravity which makes water flow down into the gutters over the drip edge into the trough, and capillary action that draws water back under the drip edge. The edge should be mounted running beneath the starter shingles extending a half an inch into the gutter.

The drip edge should be at the edge of the roof, so behind the gutter. Ideally the drip edge will be dripping into the gutter, otherwise all of that roof water is going to end up on the ground next to your foundation.

drip edge should be placed in front of gutter so as to faciltate the flow of water in the gutter and prevent it from leaking elsewhere.putting it behind will not serve the purpose.

The drip edge is fastened under the last row of shingles so that the edging overlaps the back side of the gutter. This allows water to flow into the gutter.

You want the drip edge where it will puts the water into the gutter. I would say probably a little back from half way so the gutter catches it all.
