Should I rely on an online vet?

I like the convenience.

Not for anything more than the question "does this merit a vet visit?". If you like convenience and can't be bothered to look after your pet, then don't get a pet in the first place. Only an in-person consultation can provide a complete diagnosis as vets will notice things that you don't and are able to do necessary tests.

In the same way that you probably wouldn't trust your own health to the advice of an online doctor, you should take your pet to a real veterinarian.

You can use an online vet to get a general indication of your pet's health situation, but you should always see an actual vet to make sure.

Personally, I like to have that one on one contact with my vet in person. If he meets me and gets to know me then I feel a stronger connection to him than someone I have never met before.

An online vet might be very easy, however, they are not there to examine your dog. It might be good to consult an online vet for easy problems.

I would say you can rely on an online vet for things such as regular medications or treatment of nonserious illnesses or injuries, but if the injury or illness becomes serious see a real vet right away.
