Should I be concerned that my alternator gets very hot?

You should definitely be concerned. Check the alternator with a tester to verify it is operating correctly. depending on the reading you get, it may show why it is getting so hot. Replace the alternator if in doubt or any concerns. Also, check your battery voltage.

There should not be a concern for it. If the car is moving the alternator will be hot that is normal and you should not touch the hot parts.

Alternators tend to get hot. It is basically a tiny a tiny belt driven generator. The will overheat more quickly if the car is not moving since there is less airflow around it. Have a parts store of a mechanic run a test on it to make sure it is still functioning correctly.
