Yes, you should be very concerned that your 5 year old is not potty trained. By age 3 a child should start to feel the urge to "go". There may be something medically or mentally wrong and that should be diagnosed as early as possible. Talk to a pediatrician fast.

I child who is five years old should be potty trained. This could be negligence by the parents, but it most likely means that the child has some sort of mental problem. At the very least, the child is likely to be developmentally delayed. Many schools will not accept a five year old who is not potty trained.

Yes, this is a big concern since most schools will not accept a school age child who is not potty trained and therefore your child may miss his or her's first year of school. If you are having a difficult time potty training your child, try enforcing the "you mess it up, you clean it up" rule.

Some children learn to use the bathroom slower than others, but it can become an issue. Try and provide an incetive when they do use the potty.
