My dog's tail is still red from a previous bite, what should I do?

I assume that you cleaned the original wound with hydrogen peroxide. If not try that. You can also get an isolation collar to make sure he isn't chewing the wound (reinfecting it). If not you need to see a vet. Your dog may have a serious infection which can be deadly.

If this is recent, I would apply hot compresses to draw out infection and apply bag balm. If this has persisted you have an infection and should have seen a vet. Anything over 5 days should be seen- if this was an ugly wound from the outset a vet should have been seen at once.

I personally would talk to a vet tech or take your dog to the vet. If it is still red then it might still be healing, but also might be infected if it was not properly cleaned and taken care of.

Make sure all hair is trimmed away from the wound and it's clear of debris. Wash it daily with plain soap. If that doesn't help, time for the vet.
