Old age. Your dog is obviously dealing with common issues related to aging. Some breeds, in particular German Shepherds, are susceptible to hip problems and spinal deformities. Also to consider is arthritis. Take your dog to the vet immediately to receive a concrete diagnosis as well as a prescribed course of action.

Your vet will be the best source for this information, as limited mobility can be attributed to a number of things, from neurological disorders to elbow or hip dysplasia, and only a medical examination can determine what the problem is.

Such a general statement would be hard to answer. Without knowing the dog's age and some history it would be hard to say what is wrong. With older dogs, I would first think the dog may be suffering from a problem with their bones or joints. Arthritis could be bothering the dog or hip dysplasia could be an issue.

Often older canines with difficulties going up stairs have serious hip problems. This is especially prevalent in pure bread dogs. I would suggest visiting you veterinarian where they can do an X-ray to determine if your dog has any hip problems.
