Once XP is up and running, open the application and go to either tools or options and check the setting that says something like "open upon startup"

It's simple. Press "Win" + R (to open Run) and then type "msconfig". After, find the correct tab in the window and you can edit every service you want.

Any applications that you want loaded at startup can be put in the 'Startup' folder in the Start Menu. Just drag-and-drop any shortcut icons you want to automatically startup in there. Next, you may want to just reinstall the programs that generally startup automatically.
