Is yoga good for losing weight and toning?

Answer by  Darry (3853)

Yoga by itself, while good for the body, will generally not help with extended weight loss or toning. Yoga will increase your flexibility and provide some toning but not too much. The weight loss, unless you are extremely overweight, will likely be negligible. An aerobic workout would probably work better for what you are looking for.

Yes, you will definitely loose weight performing yoga. Yoga is a complete workout. It will improve your balance, your strength, and flexibility. Yoga really tests you ability to control discomfort. Most Americans are not good at this. When performing Yoga poses you will sweat buckets and feel like a million dollars when its over.

Yoga is an excellent no-impact workout for toning and building muscle. Of course, since muscle burns more calories, increasing muscle mass will help you lose weight.
