Several roofers much more experienced then myself all advise against it. They said there is no way a roof can last through all that mother nature gives them.

Yes. They are usually interlocking shingles in assorted colors and are more expensive to install. Even though they are 50 year shingles, they should be replaced between 40 to 45 years.

Tile roofing is the best known on the market to last for 50 plus years. In the older times, the roofing materials were made from asbestos, which requires a hazmat team to come in and replace the shingles. However, no days, a tils roof is most efficent for air space, but it is rather expensive.

Reinke Shakes makes a 50 year shingle and they have made shingles now for 35 years. The first ones are still on.

Some pressure-treated southern yellow pine shingles are guaranteed for 50 years against rot, decay, and termites. Some synthetic slate shingles (made from recycled rubber) have 50 year warranties.

Life of a shingle depends on many factors. Element exposer, slope of roof, proper venting of actic, region in which you live. I would talk to local contractors and homeowners in your area to see what is being put on in your area.

They've only been making them that way for 10 to 20 years. The bottom line is that the "30 year shingles" will last about 25 years.
