There are several types of medications, aside from hydrocodone that can be used to relieve pain from arthritis. Any type of medication containing naproxen, ibuprofen, ketaprofen, or propoxyphene can be very helpful. You should consult your doctor to see what type of over the counter or prescription medication would benefit you the most.

Arthritis pain can be severe. Physicians will treat the arthritic pain depending on the patient rating the pain on a pain scale and the limitations on daily life. There are OTC pain medication, anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen and Aleve, if one can take those.

I know people who take ibuprofen or naproxen for arthritis. Both are over-the-counter medications. I also know people who take Tramadol, which is a non-narcotic prescription drug.

There are numerous pain medications for arthritis. People respond differently to each of them. For severe arthritis, high enough doses to control the pain may have undesirable side effects. Consult a rheumatologist (arthritis specialist)for information about other drug options and the best treatment of arthritis pain.

Hydrocodone is a very strong narcotic, which if needed, means the pain medication requirement you have is great. There are many pain releivers with far less or no addiciting potential. If you are lucky enough to live in on of those states, medical marijuana has great promise.

There are a few. There is medication belonging to the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) class, such as ibuprofen, naproxen, diclofenac. Also, you may try narcotic medication, such as oxycodone.
