Training a ShihTzu is pretty much the same as training any other puppy. Just remember that they do tend to have very small bladders. First decide whether you are going to paper train your puppy, or always take him outside. Always praise him if he does his business in the correct place.

Standard crate training works with this breed if the crate is the right size and you do not over do the time the pup is in the crate.

My step-mother crate-trained my ShihTzu very well. If her ShihTzu started peeing on the floor, she would put her in her crate, and sternly (but not loudly) yell at her. Your dog learns to know that the crate is not a good thing, and stops peeing in the house.

There isn't any special way. I crate trained my shih tzu like I would with any other dog. Just make sure there are toys in the crate.

I would put the puppy in the crate whenever not supervised. The rest of the time, have the crate open so your puppy can go in and out.

You would train a Shih Tzu puppy the same way you would train any other puppy. The only difference is, that you have to have a lot of patience, and persistence. They are slow to train compared to most dogs. It may take a little longer than most other dogs.
