Sign language is not universal in all languages. The form of sign language used in the United States is officially called American Sign Language. Other countries, such as Britain and Mexico, use their own forms of sign language.

Sign language used by the deaf varies from country to country and also within the same country. There are even differences between different (boarding) schools for the deaf.
