Is paxil a good treatment for tinnitus?

My son stepped on a rusty nail and had not had a tinnitus shot in some time, the doctor has put him on paxil.

Tinnitus is a ringing in the ear. You're thinking of tetanus. Paxil is a mood stabilizer and anti-depressant, not a treatment for tetanus. I think you're a bit confused.

Paxil does not treat tetanus. Paxil is an antidepressant given for depression, panic attacks, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, or severe forms of PMS. It may be that this was given if the patient had severe anxiety or panic attacks after stepping on the nail or it have been given for a completely separate issue.

You are confusing tetanus with tennitus. Tennitus, which is ringing in the ear has been shown to have a positive outcome for some who take paxil.

Paxil is normally used for treating depression and other disorders, not tetanus or tinnitus. Unless there is a specific off-list use that your doctor knows about, paxil should not be used for treatment. Tetanus is often the result of rust entering the bloodstream.

Paxil has helped me a lot with lowering the sound in my ears to become very tolerable but each person is different. I don't know why people are talking about tetanus. what does this have to do with anything!!

Usually when a potential exposure such as a rusty nail happens the physician will immunize the person with tetanus toxoid injection and treat with antibiotics. Tetanus shots are usually good for 10 years. Paxil is an antidepressant and not a treatment for tetanus. Maybe the patient expressed depression or anxiety.

Tinnitus is a ringing in the ears, which can have many causes. Tetanus can be caused by stepping on a rusty nail; however, Paxil is an antidepressant which will not treat the infection that can cause Tetanus. Your son needs an antibiotic to cure the infection, and proper wound care to prevent further infection.
