Mayonnaise may smother the living lice, and put off the infestation for a day, but it will not kill the eggs, so they will be right back.

mayonaise should work but it would make whoever your putting it on smell like a deli. better to use vasaline. they work as a smothering agent so the bugs will die.

Olive oil is a better choice. Apply at bedtime, cover with plastic wrap or shower cap(age >3) for 8 hrs. This will smother and kill all the lice. In morning, comb out the nits before washing hair. Repeat every 4 days for 3 weeks. And keep checking for nits.

Mayonnaise is home remedy for lice treatment. Put mayo all over the head and hair. Cover with a cap and leave in the hair for a period of 12 hours.
