I own microsoft publisher. It is a very good publishing program. I got it by accident when I purchased Microsoft Office 2007 Professional. It has excellent capabilities with a nice clip art library and lot's of creative options for making fliers, business cards, posters, or any project you want to add graphics to.

No. Open Office is a free, open source replacement for all MS Office programs, including Publisher. The interfaces are familiar, almost exactly replicating the ones in MS Office.

Actually in my professional experience I have found that there really is no better option out there. Publisher allows me to quickly create just about anything my company needs on the fly. You should download and Try the demo version.

It can be. It depends on your level of experience. Microsoft Publisher is an entry level application, which makes it easy to use if you are new to desktop publishing.

It is worth buying a microsoft product if you will be using it for work or school. However, if you want to check out a free knock off version, then google open office.

Yes. Ideal for the home owner who would like to print gift certificates, cards, etc. It provides design expertise and is very easy to learn and user friendly. One of the least expensive programs of its type on the market.
