Is it true that bats always exit a cave to the left?

I've heard that this is true, but I can't find the facts for sure. I need to know to help earn a Boy Scouts badge.

If you research it on the web, you won't find a sure answer. However, I can tell you for sure that bats use an echolocation mechanism. They emit a sound that bounces off of objects and walls and alerts them to where object are so that they can avoid them.

Bats usually exit left. Bats have an instinct to turn left due to when there are a lot of bats exiting a cave they want to avoid collisions.

No, bats don't always exit caves to the left. They exit to the area where there is clear space. The left thing may be residual "left is evil" superstition.

There is a study on bats in the Congo that showed they did a *one in/one out* method of exit/entrance and there was no left exit option.
