Yes, but it is always good to check the news and U.S. travel advisory warnings first, due to recent political unrest. Take normal precautions about crime etc.

Since it is a third world country there is a lot of crime but so is most countries. Just stay where tourists go and you will be okay.

There are reasons to be concerned. Ecuador has relatively high crime rates. Exercise caution and be aware of your surroundings. Tourists are sometimes targeted, so try to avoid looking wealthy. Do not wear expensive jewelery. Be especially careful when taking a taxi, as carjackings of foreigners are increasing in frequency.

Ecuador is a great spot for those craving the truly wild. Your travel can be organized in a pleasant and relaxed way with no reason to worry about Ecuador's remote location.

Yes, but much like any second or third world country, stick to the major, heavily populated areas, and for lack of a better term, "don't stray from the path." If you're looking for a hotel or place to sleep and want to ensure safety, google trip advisor and consult customer reviews for the best tips.
