Is it safe to take a prescription drug that is expired?

Don't be concerned about being harmed over medication being expired. Prescription medications that is out of date usually is not as effective. Be careful if you are taking something like High Blood Pressure medicine. If that is the case call your doctor ASAP for a new prescription.

Although generally not a good idea, it's doubtful you have done yourself harm. Some medications lose potency past the expiration date, but studies show that none are considered "unsafe".

Normally no drug should be taken after expiry date is over. From your explanation it seems that you have taken a tablets the date of which is expired. Acording to my knowledge, the tablet might have lost its medicinal value after expiry date. Better to discuss this with a physician showing the remaining tablets available with you.
