Yes since you just went through major mouth surgery. It is normal to take a week to fully recover and then you may still experience some tenderness and swelling in the area. If you don't feel better or the pain gets worse, you should return to the dentist to get it checked out.

There could be two causes. First is that the swelling is due to the injection. The second possible cause - there is an abscess inside the tooth.

I'm concerned about your report of a lot of swelling two days later. I have had several root canals and was never "very swollen" two days later. There is usually some swelling initially, and I always recommend an ice pack the first day and evening. Please call your dentist and have this checked out. There could be an infection.

It is very normal to have swelling after a root canal. Try using cold compresses and taking ibprofin to help with the swelling and pain. Call your doctor if it gets worse.
