Question by  Danajayde (16)

Is it normal to have leg numbness due to a hip replacement, or could I have nerve damage?

My leg is numb and I recently had hip replacement.

Yes, it is normal because your body is still on the process of accepting adjustments happening inside your body. fixing severe physical joint damage results to leg numbness.

I had left total hip replacement 7 weeks ago. Now walking with one crutah - out and about, and no crutch at home. But have severe numbness in operated left hip, and in exactly same place on right hip. Other hip is ok and not worn; is this normal?  add a comment

Actually it can be both hip replacement and nerve damage that is causing you to have your leg numbness, and that is normal.

It is very likely that there is numbness after hip replacement surgery and such complaints are common also. Walikng, physiotherapy and specific exercise will definitely cure it. Nothing to worry.

This is not an uncommon condition. This numbness, which is called neuropathy, is frequently reported after hip replacements. In most cases, it will eventually disappear though this can take up to six months and sometimes even longer.

I had total hip replacement 10 days ago and have had numbness in my good leg since. Any ideas what that means? My best guess is that it is the part of the leg that was under pressure for the 2 hours of the operation.
