Is it illegal to keep employees on salary after hours without pay?

I'm paid salary for what is supposed to be a 40 hour work week. My manager has been keeping me after hours to help clean the store, but not paying me any extra. Is this legal?

If your contract says that your salary covers 40 hours, you should be compensated for the extra time either in wages or in time off at time-and-a-half. "Salary" generally means you work as needed, which is the point.

Depending on the state laws and what your contract states. If you have a union, I would speak to your representative.

No it is not illegal. That is the bad thing about being on salary in that bosses tend to work you longer hours. Now if you had a contract that said you only had to work 50 hours you may be able to bring that up?
