It is not illegal. Many businesses and websites keep customer credit card numbers on file as a matter of convenience for the customer. It's the customer's decision and the merchant must provide assurances that the information is secure.

no, it is not at all illegal to keep customers credit card number, but the number on back of the card which is highly personal should not keep..

No, it is not illegal, but it's NOT a good practice. If those numbers get out, or an untrustworthy employee gets access, you are at fault. I destroy them immediately.

No, though you have to ask for consent to keep those numbers on file and you have to make sure they are kept confidential. Failure to do that will result in serious repercussions. Though usually when a customer gives you their credit card number, that is usually consent that you can keep their number on file.

The business that has used the credit card number as part of the customer's purchase of goods and services can hold onto that information for payment purposes. Employees cannot.
