Is it healthy that my pot-bellied horse's ribs are showing?

A horse with these symptoms needs to be evaluated by a veterinarian, as it may have a substantial parasite burden. It is certainly undernourished, and if a mare, may be in foal, routing all nutrition to the fetus instead of the mare herself.

This is usually a sign of ill health. Horses ribs should be able to be felt with slight pressure, but they should not be visible when simply looking at the horse. Make sure it is getting adequate feed and nutrition, and if that fails, go and talk to your vet.

This could be a sign of Cushings disease, or a problem with your horses diet. I would consult with your vet and have them run the necessary tests to make sure the horse is healthy.
